Property Rates

Today I delivered a property insurance renewal to the owner of an office building. There was a loud "thump" at the end of the line. One minute we were talking about financing, and the next minute, in the background, someone was shouting about smelling salts. After a long time eavesdropping through the phone I heard an unknown paramedic say to someone, "I'm sorry ma'am, there is nothing we can do."
I keep telling myself that this man's death is not my fault, but I am afraid the words of the paramedic will haunt me forever. Death from massive mental trauma. Only I know the full extent of that trauma.
I admit I listened in horrified fascination, until finally someone noticed the phone off the hook. I quickly hung up. Can I be held liable, I wonder? Negligent homicide, or involuntary manslaughter, perhaps. Oh the perils of this business.
