Solutions

Do you ever get too entrenched in sales and leads and prospects, and have to empty your brain and have fun with technology?  Well I would love to tell you that I have been enjoying a new computer game, but computer games kept me entertained for all of 2 hours. Then the frustration set in; what were the designers thinking, why did the animator not think of "x" obvious fact about human anatomy.  Yes, the hell of living in a critical, analytical, INTJ mind.

Clearly all of the above brought me to the point where I needed to implement some software solutions, start some new web sites, sell some newer, more exciting stuff to newer more exciting people, etc.  So, first I started playing with Blender again.  I am planning to see how far I can get testing the Blender Game Engine.  But that would not be exciting enough by itself, would it?  No a normal person would be happy with only one current obsession, but not I.  So, among my Blender projects is the charter logo designed for www.oeram.org.  Oeram is a realm for games of many types that will be licensed under GPL.  I will market it a little, and if it takes root I'll let it live.  Otherwise I will donate it to cyberspace.

But that's not all!  There are 8 or more hours of each day that I spend at the office(s), which means my work ethic will not allow me to play with things non-office-related; so what do I do?  First I added WebCalendar to the office web site.  From now on I am banning paper calendars.  We will be using WebCalendar to manage appointments (and it has built-in email reminders… why was I carrying around a paper calendar), and Sunbird or iCal or palm computers (NO MORE PAPER!) to subscribe to the calendar server.  With the next release I will probably start using Sunbird to edit calendar entries.  Or maybe, I will just use the calendar in another application that I am about to mention in the paragraph below.

You thought that was enough for one weekend didn't you?  But you were wrong; I am evaluating vtiger, and open source, free, customer relations manager (CRM) for use at the insurance agency… and perhaps elsewhere.  Take a look at the links, and if you're familiar with the softwares or know of a better (easy to customize and use) solution, post a comment or email it to me.

Have a lovely freezing weekend.

By the way, I did finish the article for the real estate firm, and will post a copy for my loyal readers after the real estate firm has had a chance to publish the book for their clients. I have it on good authority that it is a most excellent article, both from and insurance point of view and a real estate investment point of view. Total length is around 11 pages, 12pt 8.5×11 single spaced. Look forward to it!

    • Modo Vernant Omnia - Tampa local with many topics of interest to my readers. As you might imagine, I could not resist blogrolling a site that has tags as diverse as: economy (with views similar), spinning (as in wool), ancient Greek stuff, and occult.
    • Nassim Nicholas Taleb - Fooled by Randomness - The Economist turned me on to Mr. Taleb, a trader turned philoisopher (as described by Forbes). His writing and his thinking are quite interesting, and certainly more worthwhile than anything you will find here.
    • Ouralexander.org - Site discussing informed consent in pediatric medicine, by a family that experienced the worst possible tragedy.
    • RiskProf - An Insurance Blog - A truly marvelous blog. I know risk & insurance are less interesting to most of you than organizing your sock drawer, but this is excellent writing. Besides, if you understand insurance you have the right to complain about it.
    • Schneier on Security - This will be your favorite security blog. Bruce Schneier exposes “security theatre” and proposes realistic problems and solutions. Stay up to date on security policy and IT risk management with CRYPTOGRAM, his email newsletter.
